ABOUT THE P.A.W.S. PROJECT
What is the P.A.W.S. Project?
The P.A.W.S. Project is a Girl Scout Gold Award Project created to spread awareness about the needs of homeless animals in NOVA. By spreading awareness, I hope to increase the number of pet adoptions, foster homes, volunteers, and donations (to local rescue groups). I also hope to inform the public of the importance of the issue and encourage people to get involved.
What is the Girl Scout Gold Award?
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that can be achieved by a Girl Scout. It can be achieved only by Girl Scout Seniors or Ambassadors in high school. The Gold Award challenges Girl Scouts to use leadership to make a difference in their communities. Originally called the Golden Eagle of Merit (1916-1919), nearly one million girls have earned this award or its equivalent in 100 years. Its name has changed many times but the purpose and meaning of the Gold Award has always remained the same.

ABOUT ME
My name is Lauren McDermott and I have been an active member of Girl Scouts for more than 10 years. I have always enjoyed community service and I am especially interested in helping animals. Both my aunt and grandmother had a passion for caring for and fostering animals which influenced me when I was young. Today, I have two cats of my own and enjoy looking after others' pets as well. If it were possible, I would take in many more animals. Unfortunately, because there is such a large number of homeless animals, I know that I cannot solve this problem on my own, which is why I have decided to educate members of my community about the needs of homeless animals. Whether by adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating, I hope that this project motivates you to help make a difference!
