Adoption Success Stories

Bella
Bella (fka Janey) was adopted from Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) in September 2013. She was the only dog in the kennel who was NOT barking. She was sitting quietly with beautiful brown eyes that looked so sad and my heart went to out to her! She is a black lab/greyhound mix – such a pretty girl! I asked to take her for a walk and that was it, she was my dog! Bella has brought much joy to my life! She was not quite 2 when she became a part of my family and loves her “people’, dogs and kids. She is sweet and loving and just loves to be with her family. I would never consider getting a dog from anywhere else! FOHA is a wonderful organization that rescues animals from kill shelters and cares for them until they find their forever home.

Chief
Scott and I adopted Chief (fka Baron) from Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) in May 2016. We went to this shelter since we had previously adopted from them in the past and knew that they had many dogs that were in need of a forever home. We knew that we wanted a larger dog and a German Shepherd was our first choice. We looked at several dogs that day, but when we walked Chief, he “leaned” into Scott and at that point, we knew he had picked us! Chief has a big personality and is very much an alpha male. He loves his “people” and follows us around like a big puppy. He does have a very scary bark, but is a big lug who just wants to be loved. It has taken him and our other dog (Bella) some time to get used to each other and play nicely together, but they are learning new things each day.

Merlin
This is Merlin! We rescued him on a warm June day in 2012 (from Fancy Cats). He was 10 weeks old and the cuddliest one of his litter. We believe he is mostly, if not all, Maine Coon which gives him his silky soft long hair and tipped ears. He became instantly attached to our older son and has a wonderful personality. He loves to go on walks with our dogs and appreciates any attention from visitors as well. He's brought such joy to our family and we are blessed to have been able to give this beautiful cat a loving home!

Echo
Echo was adopted from A Forever Home Rescue
Foundation. They rescued his mother who was pregnant from a kill shelter and brought her to Virginia and found a foster home for her and her puppies. We then adopted him two years ago and he is a great addition to our home!

Taz
We rescued our first dog, Sully, from a neighbor who worked with Lost Dog and Cat Rescue when our daughter was around 2. He was a great dog and when he died, at age 9, I wasn't looking to get another dog because I was so sad. One day, though, I was looking through some pictures that the same neighbor had posted from the high-kill shelter near her in NC where she had moved. There was a desperate need to get this particular dog out of the shelter because they weren't supposed to adopt out pit bulls and the director there thought this dog had the best smile and the best temperament and needed to be saved. His face melted my heart. I contacted my friend who agreed to pick him up and drive him to us that weekend and the rest is history. Taz is the greatest dog there has ever been. All he wants is to love and be loved by people or dogs or cats - anyone who can give him a scratch or lick his ears. We will, forevermore, adopt our pets from rescue organizations. They have been the best pets I have ever had.

Sophie
We adopted Sophie from A Forever Home 13 1/2 years ago! She was one in a litter of six female pups! Her foster mom brought all six puppies to our house and we played with them outside in the front yard trying to decide which adorable puppy to add to our family! Three of the sisters looked just like Sophie - mostly black with some white but the other three were white with black spots all over! After playing with all of the puppies for quite a while, our daughter helped pick out Sophie who was only 7 pounds at the time and now weighs 55 pounds! Sophie has been such a joy in our lives and she is very much loved by our family. Although she is in her senior years now, she still has a little spunk left! We enjoy walking her each day and when we come home after being out of the house, she still gets up and comes to greet us, tail wagging! Adopting Sophie was one of the best things we've done. She has brought much love to our lives!
